Lucien Cohen conquers the biggest live field in PokerStars history (€676,230)

The PokerStars Estrellas Poker Tour High Roller in Barcelona is now over.

The €2,200 event attracted 2,214 entrants across two opening stages and had a prize pool of €4,250,880. Of these, 332 players entered the second day of play and locked in a minimum prize money of at least €3,400. At the end of Day 2, only 10 players remained.

Conor Beresford returned as the scoreboard leader on Day 3 and held on until his Aces were reversed by Antoine Labat’s pocket jacks, costing him a huge pot.

Labat continued to build up the scoreboard, eventually becoming the scoreboard leader with three players remaining.

He concluded a prize split agreement with Goran Mandic and China’s Sun Yunsheng, with Labat profiting the most from the deal, getting €500,000 in the ICM split. Mandic ranked second with 418,980 euros, and Sun Yunsheng ranked third with 385,240 euros.

All that’s left is to see who gets the title and the trophy. To do this, players choose to blind push. Only four hands are needed to decide the outcome. Mandic ended up winning, earning himself the trophy.

€1,100 Estrellas Poker Tour Main Event

It seemed only fitting that Lucien Cohen was holding a cup of coffee when the final card was dealt in the €1,100 Estrellas Poker Tour Main Event. The man affectionately known as “The Rat Man” wore the same shirt every day of the tournament after another player spilled coffee on him in the early stages of the game at the Casino de Barcelona. He said the incident felt like luck, and it appears he was right.

The ESPT Main Event will take an extra day at the 2023 PokerStars European Poker Tour in Barcelona as it is the largest live tournament in PokerStars history, with Cohen dominating from start to finish and in heads-up play Defeated Ferdinando D’Alessio.

A record 7,398 entrants brought the prize pool to €7,102,080. In the end, the Frenchman took home the €676,230 top prize and the coveted PokerStars trophy.

Cohen, known as “The Rat Man” for his pest control business, was further honored as ESPT Series Champion at the EPT Trophy he won in Deauville in 2011. The €880,000 prize is the only tournament payout in his career bigger than today’s victory. The 59-year-old considers himself a recreational player, but told reporters after his win that he found his passion in the game again.
